Deborah Norris, Ph.D., Executive Director

photo of Deb NorrisDr. Norris is the Executive Director of Science for Health and Energy, Inc. She is trained in both psychopharmacology and holistic therapies. A health scientist with over 30 years of experience in research, clinical application and education, Dr. Norris can help you formulate an integrative approach to your health care, working with you and your physicians.

She has a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in psychology/ psychopharmacology, and is Adjunct Professor and Scientist in Residence in the Department of Psychology at American University. Dr. Norris teaches and conducts research in behavioral medicine. Dr. Norris previously taught in the Psychiatry Department at Georgetown University Medical School, and in the Health/Fitness Department at American University. Dr. Norris worked for more than 10 years as a health scientist specializing in neurotoxicology and environmental illnesses at the United States Environmental Protection Agency. As Adjunct Professor at American University, Dr. Norris has taught Stress Management in the Health/Fitness Department. Dr. Norris can help you identify the causes of stress in your life, and to gain control over stress.

Dr. Norris has studied a number of mind-body-spirit modalities. She has intensive training in the theory and practice of Gestalt Psychotherapy and meditation. She has also trained with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Integrating her studies of mind and body, Dr. Norris is certified in exercise physiology by the American College of Sports Medicine and other certifying organizations. She is an instructor for the Arthritis Foundation. In her quest for continuing education in healing modalities, Dr. Norris is also trained and certified in a number of forms of bioenergetic healing, including Reconnective Healing (TM) with Dr. Eric Pearl. Dr. Norris has over thirty years of experience in health sciences, exercise and dance.

Dr. Norris maintains a private practice specializing in mind-body-spirit therapies. In her practice, Dr. Norris integrates lifestyle elements of physical exercise, meditation, spiritual development, relaxation therapy, energy work, imagery, nutrition and herbalism for maximal health and happiness!



Jeanette Sawyer, Director of Play

Ms. Sawyer has a B.A. in psychology and philosophy from American University, with honors in psychology. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Jeanette has a special interest in the holistic treatment of children with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum, and has conducted research and published on topics including understanding autism as a movement disorder and as a sleep disorder. She has two years of research and four years of clinical experience with children with autism. Ms Sawyer has supervised both in-home and institutional programs for children with learning disabilities and autism both in the United States and Scotland.

As an artist, Ms. Sawyer understands that forms of creative expression, such as visual art, drama, music and movement, bring balance to any person's mental health. For those individuals who may feel un-centered, this recreational creativity is not only fun, but therapeutic, and necessary for just that, re-creation.

Ms. Sawyer conducts arts workshops based on her philosophy of mental illness. Ms. Sawyer also conducts Mindfulness Meditation and Self-awareness programs. Ms. Sawyer is trained in energy healing, and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in clinical psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Katherine Cochran, Nutritionist

Katherine Cochran Director of Nutritional Programs

Ms. Cochran received her degree in Nutrition from the University of Delaware in 1981. She is an inspiring and confident communicator who is enjoyable to hear present. Ms. Cochran is experienced in presenting nutritional information in an understandable manner that motivates people to take action. Ms. Cochran has a record of success in working one-on-one and in groups with special-needs populations. After ten years of consulting on her own, Ms. Cochran joined Science for Health and Energy, Inc. in 2002. Prior to her work in nutrition, Ms. Cochran was a stockbroker and Senior Securities Sales Supervisor with Merrill Lynch. She is also mother to two well-nourished children.

Ms. Cochran has a record of numerous presentations. She has designed and delivered lectures and training on topics including:

  • Childhood Nutrition for the Parent Information Program at Gallaudet University
  • Balanced Nutrition for busy professionals "Why Are Power Bars Making Me Feel Tired?" for Korn Ferry International
  • Stress Reduction and the Effect of Nutrition on Stress at the American University

  • Geriatric Nutrition and needs of older adults for seniors and caretakers

Ms. Cochran has been a personal nutritional consultant for small groups and individuals dealing with specific nutritional needs including:

Jon Norris, J.D.

Although Mr. Norris is a practicing criminal Defense Attorney, Mr. Norris has found that Life Experiences can be enhanced by Mindfulness Meditation and other forms of Energy healing. Mr. Norris is trained in Mindfulness meditation and Self-Awareness Training at the Gestalt School of Greater Washington. He has also studied Bioenergetic Healing with Mietek Wirkus, and is certified in Reconnective Healing (R) with Dr. Eric Pearl.

Mr. Norris is available for consulting in both meditation, Reconnective Healing, and matters involving criminal defense.



Jamie Stagl, Program Director

Ms. Stagl recently graduated from American University with a B.A. in Psychology. Jamie has interned, and studied alternative medicine with Dr. Norris. She has also been a research assistant with Dr. Norris in the field of psychopharmacology. Jamie has worked as a therapist in a home-based Applied Behavioral Analysis program for a child with autism, performing activities to improve development of motor skills, concentration, focus and thinking ability through positive reinforcement.

Jamie grew up dancing in a studio that encouraged energy healing for dance related injuries. She has witnessed healing through energy transfer and meditation that was completely successful, and therefore takes a special interest in group energy and group meditation for therapeutic purposes.

Jamie teaches Aerobic Dance, an undergraduate course at American University, encouraging students to maintain their health and fitness in fun and interesting ways. In addition, Jamie teaches group exercise classes including Abs and Glutes, and cardio hip hop at Jacobs Fitness Center at American University. She also teaches hip hop dance at Joy of Motion Dance Center, Potomac Dance Centre, and the JCC in Washington, DC. Jamie finds fitness and exercise extremely important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
